A 47-year-old Sandoval man escaped injury when he lost control of his car and it hit a power pole on West Main Street in front of Rent One early Saturday afternoon.

Salem Police believe Ryan Koehler lost control after striking a curb and then missed a curve in the road and hit the Ameren Pole head-on.    The pole broke but remained up.   Koehler was able to get out of the car on his own and refused hospital treatment.

As the vehicle was being towed away it began smoking under the hood and the Salem Fire Protection District was called.   The smoke had stopped by the time firemen arrived.   The car battery was disconnected to prevent any fire.

The crash occurred just after one Saturday afternoon.
