A special enrollment period for Illinoisans needing health insurance kicks off Monday.
Get Covered Illinois Executive Director Laura Pellikan says an executive order signed by President Biden provides the additional opportunity to search for an affordable plan on the state’s marketplace.
“It’s specific to 2021 Covid-19 special enrollment period but it doesn’t have to be tied to the pandemic in order for someone to enroll in healthcare coverage. It just allows people more time and opportunity to enroll in a health plan and have coverage.”
Those that have already enrolled can also use this period to switch plans.
“If they just recently enrolled in a plan this past open enrollment that just took place last year they can make changes to their plan. So that is also an option.”
