The driver of a pickup truck was killed in a crash involving a semi-truck at the Veterans Memorial Drive exit near Mt. Vernon Thursday afternoon.
State Police say the name of the person killed has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
A preliminary investigation indicates the pickup truck was traveling north on I-57 when it attempted to exit and struck the rear of the semi that was stopped on the right shoulder just past the exit ramp. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the semi, 26-year-old Kadeem Lindsey of Orlando, Florida escaped injury as did a passenger in the semi, 39-year-old Reder Rancy of Springfield Missouri.
The crash is still under investigation. It occurred at 2:15 Thursday afternoon.
