A 30 by 40-foot barn on the Ron Daniels property at 6195 North Abbott Lane south of Belle Rive was destroyed in a Wednesday night fire.
Jefferson County Fire Protection District officials say the barn was already engulfed in flames when the fire was discovered by a passerby. In addition to the structure, firemen say a tractor in an attached lean-to and other equipment was lost.
The owner believes the fire started from a heat lamp being used to keep some goats in the barn warm.
Mt. Vernon City, Webber Township, and Dahlgren Fire Departments provided mutual aid assistance at the scene while Woodlawn and Waltonville Firemen covered the Jefferson County Fire Protection District station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 8:43 Wednesday night. Firemen were on the scene for just over two and a half hours. No injuries were reported.
