The Marion County Board has delayed the appointment of a District 2 Board Member to replace the late Erwin Hahn.
The board was expected to vote on the appointment of Troy Reid of rural Iuka to the position at Tuesday night’s meeting but it was delayed because Reid has taken a full-time position as a maintenance person at the sheriff’s department. Reid’s wife Debra, who said she had talked her husband into seeking the position, said she would like to take the spot if the State’s Attorney rules her husband would now have a conflict as a county employee.
Debra Reid told the board Tuesday night she has lived most of her life in Marion County, is a Centralia High, Kaskaskia College, and Southern Illinois University graduate with a bachelors degree in computer science. She worked 38 years as Corporate Director of Information Management Systems at Radiac Abrasives in Salem.
County Board Chair Debbie Smith now hopes the board can act on an appointment to replace Hahn at their March meeting.
The board did take action on a number of other appointments.
- Sonya Germann and Ben Stratemeyer were reappointed to two-year terms on the Illinois South Tourism Board.
- Board member David Iossi was named to replace Wayne Putman on the Marion County 708 Mental Health Board.
- Ray Bowers was appointed to an opening on the Marion County Housing Authority.
- The county’s new ESDA coordinator Sheri Barter was named to the 911 Emergency Phone Board replacing her late father Donnie Brooks.
