Ellie Bunnell’s layup with less than 12 seconds left gave the Salem Lady Cats a 45-42 home win to open up the Cahokia over Freeburg. Malia Harris led Salem with 14 and SWIC signee Chloe Harness added 7. Salem had a 3-point lead late, but Freeburg came down and tied it setting up Bunnell’s heroics. Salem is 1-1 on the year and 1-0 in the league with a trip to Wesclin coming tomorrow. The Salem JV lost 49-30 in their season opener.
