The Salem Lady Cats turned the ball over 9 times in the opening quarter as they trailed 16-6 after the first 8 minutes, and it was a hole they couldn’t dig out of in their 56-51 loss at Centralia to open the season.
Chloe Harness, who will sign her letter of intent later today to play basketball for SWIC next season, finished with 14 for Salem. Centralia got 19 from Juliyah Rudder-Williams, 13 of those in the 2nd half. The first half was dominated by the Edsons. The Centralia trio scored 29 of the first 35 points for the Annies as they win their season opener.
Salem will lick their wounds and open up the Cahokia Conference on Tuesday night when they host Freeburg, they head to Wesclin on Thursday before welcoming Columbia next Saturday.
