ALTON, Ill. (AP) — Investigators say two men whose bodies were found in a fire-damaged southern Illinois home were victims of a double-homicide and the fire was not an accident.
Firefighters found the bodies of 59-year-old Robert Andrews and 67-year-old Leonard “James” Ebrey inside their home Monday in the Madison County village of Godfrey, just north of Alton.
The state fire marshal has determined the fire was not an accident. Deputy Commander Brian Koberna with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis says investigators know Andrews and Ebrey’s deaths were “absolutely not a murder-suicide.” He tells KTVI-TV investigators “are actively searching for a person that committed this crime.”
