Salem will soon have a small RV Park.
Sam and Becky Phillips of Salem outlined their plans for property behind the Salem Huck’s Store along the east side of North Missouri Avenue at Monday night’s Salem City Council meeting.
The council approved a request to lift the ten-ton weight limit on Mills Cart Road east of Missouri Avenue which would allow the larger RVs to exit onto Mills Cart without violating the weight limit. The weight limit will now go to 80 tons like the rest of the roads in the city without lower posted limits.
Sam Phillips says the Ucamp Express RV Park will contain ten pull in pads that will be fully automatic for hookup and payment.
“Most RV’ers like drive-thru spots, they don’t like to back in. So we had to fix it so they could drive-thru and drive out the next morning. Stay hooked up if they are pulling a trailer or some or a lot of them in the bigger RV’s pull a car behind it, and they wouldn’t have to unhook their vehicles. So we are trying to make it easy.”
The RV park will provide water, sewer, electric and internet hookup.
Phillips says the facility will include a small maintenance building including bathrooms and a fireplace. Individual fire pits will also be available at each of the ten hookups. Phillips feels this location is perfect for their concept.
“We would show you pictures of what we don’t want. And it seems like that is what we are finding, what we don’t want. So we are trying to do our first one here in our hometown of Salem to be exactly what they want in an RV Park.”
Phillips says will be trying to attract the larger RV units. Signage will be placed along I-57 to let those with RV’s know there is a place to hook up for the night in Salem. He hopes the overnight stops will also provide revenue for other businesses.
The goal is to be open in April.
