The Illinois Department of Public Health has reported an additional 71 deaths from COVID-19 on Friday, including a male in his 90s from Fayette County.  Other Southern Illinois deaths occurred in Effingham, Madison, Randolph, St. Clair, and Williamson Counties.

There were a total of 4,156 new cases reported and for the third straight day in a row a record number of vaccine doses being delivered.  58,357 doses were reported to have been given in the most recent 24 hour period.   The state’s overall positivity rate fell to 4.3-percent.

New numbers on cases have not been released on Friday for Marion County.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting 24 new positive cases.  222 are on home isolation and seven are hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department reported 17 new cases with 131 currently in isolation.

The Washington County Health Department is reporting seven new lab-confirmed cases on Thursday and Friday.  There are 37 active cases and no hospitalizations.

The Fayette County Health Department is reporting ten new cases on Friday.

While the Metro-East Region positivity rate fell three-tenths of a percent to 7.2-percent for the fourth day in a row only 18-percent of ICU beds remain available.   The region has to have three days in a row above the 20-percent threshold to move out of the strict mitigations.

The Southern Illinois Region positivity rate increased to 5.4-percent for the week ending January 26th.  Marion County’s rate is at 3.8-percent.  The East Central Illinois Region has fallen to 5-percent positivity.
