U of I Assistant Professor develops online tool to find symptoms of COVID-19 sooner

A new online tool may help people detect the symptoms of COVID-19 sooner.

The idea is to take a quick smell and taste-test every morning with your favorite drink whether that be coffee, juice, or something else.  University of Illinois Assistant Professor of Food Science Yanina Pepino says the web-based tool tracks how strong your senses are over a period of time, that way you will be able to detect any drastic changes.

“Many times you take it for granted and may go a couple of days without even noticing that you lost your sense of smell unless you purposely are paying attention.  We think first thing in the morning doing it with your coffee or beverage will help increase the warning.”

Pepino says since the loss of taste or smell is one of the hallmarks of the virus, the test can help get people into quarantine or get tested more quickly.  Take the test online at riech-check.com
