Illinois’ tax filing season begins Friday, February 12th. You can start filing both your state and federal taxes on the 12th. Illinois Department of Revenue spokesperson Terry Horstman encourages people to file electronically.
“This year tax payers who electronically file an error free return should expect to see a direct deposit refund in 4-6 weeks from the Illinois Department of Revenue. Last year 87% of our taxpayers filed electronically.”
Those filing with an IL 10-40 can do so for free on the mytax.illinois.gov website. There, you can also check on the status of your refund. The tax filing deadline is April 15th.
