The Marion County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency’s new coordinator plans to keep things the way they are.

Sherri Barter was named by the county board to replace her late father Donnie Brooks at Tuesday night’s county board meeting. Barter was also named as the county’s new Freedom of Information officer and county board secretary.

Barter says her dad had a good flow and had been training her the past few years on applying for grants and operation of the department. She reports the Marion County ESDA remains actively involved in providing personal protective equipment to schools, governments, hospitals and nursing homes in addition to assisting during emergency situations. Barter is expecting additional shipments and is trying to locate smaller size masks for school age children. The ESDA organization currently has 12 members, all who are volunteers.

Barter says she will be taking state provided training to oversee the county’s Freedom of Information requests. She will handle requests made to the county board. The various office holders will complete their own requests which Barter to receive copies to review the efforts.

Barter will also replace the retiring Carolyn Ballard as part-time county board secretary. Her first priority is to organize county meeting records. The county board was told Tuesday their iPads have now arrived and will soon be provided to each member. They will include agenda materials now delivered via printed copy as well as minutes and information on past meetings.
