Governor JB Pritzker is activating the Illinois National Guard in light of threats to state capital cities.
The FBI has warned that protests may be planned leading up to the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden in all 50 state capitols.
Governor Pritzker says the state is taking precautions.
“I activated 250 members of the Illinois National Guard to have them work alongside our Illinois State Police, Secretary of State Police, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and our local and federal counterparts in law enforcement.”
The Governor says they will safeguard the right to hold a peaceful protest while protecting the citizens of Illinois.
The Secretary of State’s Office has been boarding up some windows of the State Capitol for added protection.
An additional 300 Illinois National Guard Troopers will be in Washington on Inauguration Day to lend support.
