The Salem Police Department has named its 2020 Police Officer and Communication Officer of the Year.
Patrolman Ian King was recognized as the Police Officer of the Year and Communications Supervisor Justin Draper was recognized as the Communications Officer of the Year.
King has worked for the Salem Police Department since May 2019. He led the department in 2020 with calls for service handled, traffic stops, citations, and arrests.
Police Chief Sean Reynolds says King shows up every day ready to serve and does so with the utmost professionalism.
Draper has worked for the Salem Police Department since June 2000. Reynolds says Draper took over the communications supervisor position in 2015 and has proven to be a valuable asset in that role. In 2020, Draper was instrumental in working with the Marion County 911 Coordinator, the Marion County ETSB, and area departments to help facilitate the new Records Management System and Computer Aided Dispatch System coming to the Salem and Centralia Police Departments and Marion County Sheriff’s Department. The new system should result in a quicker and more efficient way to do business which will result in better service to the citizens of Salem and Marion County.
On top of this, Reynolds says Draper is a solid 911 communications officer which earned him this recognition.
