The Centralia City Council has cleared the way for eight businesses and two non-profit organizations to receive COVID-19 relief funds.

The council Monday night gave final approval to an agreement with the state for the Local Cure Economic Support Payments Grant program. While the application is for $250,000, only the $130,000 in applications already approved will be eligible.

City Manager Lowell Crow told the city council Monday night says they tried to reach everyone before the December 31st deadline.

“Businesses and non-profits as long as they meet certain criteria they cannot have gotten the big grant, which is the Business Interruption Grant from the State.  The other restriction is any tavern or businesses classified as a tavern that has over 35% of its revenue from gaming is not eligible for this grant.”

The applications already approved locally are Darlington Family Restaurant, Inc doing business as Golden Pancake House and Bills Tax Service of Centralia in the amount of $25,000 each and Tony’s Welding, Fleming Cleaners, Hunan House, Dreamality Athletics, LLC, Fire Wok, the Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce, City Hope Church and Leticia Enterprises, Inc. doing business as Sergios all for $10,000.

There were five other applications that could not be funded because they had already received help directly from the state’s relief program. One business didn’t qualify because more than 35-percent of its revenue was from video gaming.

In other action, the council approved the purchase of a pickup truck through Monken that will be assigned to the police sergeants. Crow says more cities are going to the trucks for sergeants to allow them a way to haul barriers and other items while still having the ability to transport a prisoner. The $29,040 price from Monken’s was under the state purchase contract.
