State Senator Jason Plummer has been named as Assistant Republican Leader on the Senate’s Republican Leadership Team for the upcoming 102nd General Assembly.
Plummer says he’s excited and humbled by the opportunity that he doesn’t take lightly.
“I have worked hard to get stuff done in Springfield for the District and to work with people and I think it shows and that’s been recognized. More importantly, it’s great for southern Illinois. It’s been a while since southern Illinois, the Metro-East and basically south of Springfield has had someone in the State Senate leadership, and be able to represent the common-sense conservative values of this area in that role is important and I’m proud to do it.”
Plummer says with Illinois recovering from a pandemic, it is more critical than ever that lawmakers buckle down, embrace real reforms and recognize that the problems of this state will not be fixed with partisan agendas and tax-and-spend policies. Plummer says he firmly believes under Senator Dan McConchie’s leadership they can build a strong Republican caucus that will fight for the hardworking families and small businesses of Illinois.
The appointment will take effect after an official vote on the Illinois Senate floor in January.
Meanwhile, the veto session is scheduled to get underway Friday. House members will be asked to select a new House Speaker. Some Democratic legislators have indicated they will not support Michael Madigan for re-election due to the current on-going corruption investigation.
