Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller is facing calls to resign and apologize after making comments that seemed to praise Adolf Hitler on how ‘Hitler was right on one thing’ when discussing how he successfully influenced youth.

Illinois Democratic Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky was among those calling for Miller to resign.   Other condemnations are coming from the entire Illinois Democratic Congressional delegation, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Illinois Legislative Jewish Caucus.

The legislative caucus said Miller had demonstrated an act of blatant anti-Semitism and disrespect to the Jewish people and all those who perished at the hands of the Nazis.   They say a sitting member of Congress who uses Hitler’s obscene methods for indoctrinating children with racism and fascism as a guidepost, igniting hate and violence, has no place in Congress.  The caucus concludes that if Representative Miller has any respect left for the role of a U.S. Congressperson or any shred of dignity in her, she will do what’s right and resign.

Many Republicans are adding their strong disapproval.

State Party Chair Tim Schneider says the language is wrong and disgusting.  He is urging Congresswoman Miller to apologize.

Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger said ‘I outright condemn this garbage’.

Illinois Senate GOP leader-designate Dan McConchie said these nonsense comments are some of the most ridiculous I’ve ever heard from an elected official.  McConchie says Hitler was the epitome of evil. Period.

Miller has not responded to the criticism other than a Twitter comment that her statement was a denunciation of evil dictators’ efforts to re-educate young people and similar efforts by left-wing radicals in our country today.

Miller and her staff have not returned phone calls.
