Attorney General Kwame Raoul is warning the public about COVID-19 vaccine scams.
Raoul says COVID scams aren’t new, but the approval of a vaccination is now giving con-artists more opportunities to fleece consumers. He says you should ignore emails, texts and calls offering to put you on a list to get the vaccine or asking for your personal information to sign you up for a shot.
“Unless you came from your physician, medical provider, or public health department you should definitely disregard the call. Don’t click on anything whether it’s through a text or email link that suggests it’s going to lead you to a place to get the vaccine quicker and easier.”
Raoul also notes that Medicaid and Medicare will not call people to proactively offer the vaccine and that no one should be asking for your bank account or social security information in relation to the vaccine.
In addition, you should not buy any kind of vaccine or COVID treatment online, since the shot will be administered for free even if you don’t have health insurance.
