The new Congressman for the 15th Congressional District Mary Miller is drawing criticism for saying Adolph Hitler ‘was right on one thing’.
The comment came in Washington DC as Miller was discussing election results and the need to get young people involved.
Miller could be heard in a recording of a portion of the speech posted on Twitter that ‘If we win a few elections, we’re still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle.’ She then added ‘Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘whoever has the youth has the future’”.
Governor JB Pritzker was quick to condemn Miller’s comments as unfathomable and disgusting during a news conference on an unrelated topic.
“Let me clear, Hitler got nothing right. This reprehensible rhetoric has no place in our politics. Illinois Republicans cannot allow this to stand and must condemn this vile evil streak in their party. If Representative Miller was the least bit interested in history, she would visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center to learn just how wrong Hitler was.”
Miller’s office has not returned phone calls seeking more information on the comments or for a copy of the contents of the entire speech.
This is only Miller’s fourth day in office. She was sworn in Sunday to replace the retiring John Shimkus. The 15th Congressional District includes Marion, Fayette, Effingham, Clinton, Washington, Clay, and Wayne Counties among others.
