The Salem City Council Monday night gave final approval to changes in the ordinance governing the growing number of food trucks in the city.
The changes were made to create a uniform set of rules for the operation of the food trucks and the sale of the food items to the general public.
City Clerk Bev Quinn, who oversees the planning commission, was asked if the current food trucks meet the new ordinance guidelines.
“We are trying to make sure the people that need a special use permit can apply for it and people know they have to register with the city and county. Those we’ve checked on have been registered. And the Marion County Health Department is doing an awesome job of checking for their credentials and making sure their trucks are appropriate.”
The council also approved $140,000 from motor fuel tax funds for this summer’s oil and chip road improvement program. The money will pay for the seal coating, pea gravel, and the preliminary engineering.
