The 15th District’s new Congresswoman will be among those joining the supporters of President Donald Trump in objecting to the Electoral College results of certain states.
Mary Miller says she will be joining patriotic leaders across the nation in objecting to the Electoral College results of certain states that did not uphold the constitution. Miller maintains many Americans have lost confidence in the fairness of the electoral system. By objecting to certain electors on Wednesday, Miller hopes she and her colleagues can send a message to those men and women that they will not sit idly by while the Constitution is trampled on.
Miller says while the Constitution gives state legislatures sole authority over how elections are carried out, many state and local officials in swing states took matters into their own hands last November by changing how their state would conduct the election. But she adds the country’s founders also gave Congress the final say in accepting or rejecting the electors and it’s in America’s best interest that votes were counted in accordance to state law.
Miller was just sworn into office on Sunday to replace retiring Congressman John Shimkus. Miller will be one of up to 100 House Republicans to challenge the Electoral College Vote.
The issue has split the Republican Party. Some Republican leaders are warning the effort is undermining American’s faith in democracy.
The reading of the Electoral votes is the final step before Joe Biden is sworn into office on January 20th.
