Salem City Council looks to finalize changes in food truck ordinance

By News Jan 4, 2021 | 8:35 AM

The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to give final approval to changes in the food truck ordinance.

City Manager Rex Barbee introduced the ordinance because of increased activity of vendors that created a need for a uniform set of rules for the operation of the food trucks and the sale of food items to the general public. The Marion County Health Department remains in charge of inspecting the trucks for serving food. The ordinance sets up the rules for the permitting of the vendors and registering their intended location.

The council will also be asked to set aside $140,000 in motor fuel tax funds for this summer's street maintenance program. The money would cover the bituminous seal coating, pea gravel
aggregate to cover the fresh oil and the preliminary engineering on the proposed roads.

The meeting begins at six pm. It will be held via Zoom Conference Call due to COVID-19 restrictions on meetings.
