Only 11 new COVID-19 cases and no additional deaths were reported to the Marion County Health Department over the past four days beginning with New Year’s Day.

The health department reports none of the new cases were in long term care residents or students.  Four are considered community spread and seven were from household or close contacts.

There are now 200 active cases in the county, including 23 who are hospitalized. Four of those are on ventilators.  The department released 98 from isolation bringing the number of recovered to 2,944.   The Marion County death toll remains at 100.

Statewide, there were 5,059 new cases reported and 79 additional deaths.   One of the deaths was in Wayne County, a male in his 80s.

The Clinton County Health Department had 88 new positive cases over the three day weekend and Monday.  There are now 405 on home isolation and ten who are hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting 76 new cases over the four days.  164 are currently in isolation.  With weekend deaths, the county’s death toll is now at 67.

Washington County is reporting 43 new cases from December 31st through January 2nd.  112 are currently on isolation and three hospitalized.  After a weekend death,  Washington County is now reporting 23 deaths.

Fayette County Health Department is reporting 49 new cases since Thursday.  Nine are linked to congregate care facilities.  The county has had 47 deaths.

Clay County is reporting 42 new cases from Friday through Sunday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate remained at 8.6-percent.  The Southern Illinois Region positivity fell to 11.4-percent for the seven days ending January first.   Marion County’s positivity rate is at 10.2-percent.   The Metro East Region’s positivity is at 13.2-percent.   The East Central Illinois Region is at nine percent.

Less than 13-percent of ICU beds are available in the Southern Illinois Region and just under 16-percent in the Metro-East Region.   The state is seeking a 20-percent threshold on available ICU and Med-Surg Beds.   All three regions are above that threshold.
