The Marion County Health Department is reporting 57 new COVID-19 cases on New Year’s Eve, but no additional deaths.

Statewide, there were 8,009 new cases and 133 additional deaths.  There were two additional deaths reported in Jefferson County, males in their 80s and 90s. Jefferson County has now had 66 deaths. A female in her 100s died in Clay County and a male in his 50s in Effingham County.

Of the 57 new Marion County cases, one was a long-term care resident and two were students.  29 of the cases are listed as community spread and 28 from household or close contacts.    All are on isolation.

The health department reports 287 active cases, including 25 in the hospital and four of those on ventilators.   There were 182 released from isolation, bringing the number recovered to 2,846.

The Clinton County Health Department reported 39 new positive cases on Thursday.  There are now 376 who are on home isolation and 11 who are hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting 20 new positive COVID-19 cases.  There are now 199 positive cases in isolation.

Fayette County has 14 new positive cases of COVID-19.   Clay County had 7 new positive cases on Wednesday.

The statewide positivity rate has increased to 7.7-percent for the week ending December 30th.   The Southern Illinois Region positivity for the week ending December 28th has increased to 12.5-percent.  Marion County’s rate dropped to nine percent.   The Metro East Region positivity rate is at 12.2-percent.   The East Central Illinois Region increased to 8.7-percent.   Only 13.5-percent of the ICU beds are available in both the Southern and Metro-East Region.  All other categories in the Southern Illinois regions are above the 20-percent threshold.
