Centralia Fire Protection District Firefighters fight a fire that heavily damaged a home at 731 James Street in Wamac.

A Wamac home was heavily damaged by fire Monday night.

Two occupants were at home at 731 James when the fire broke out.  Connie Dale and Drew Gherardini reported first seeing flames around a computer in one of the bedrooms.   They did not have a phone in the home and had to go to a neighbor’s home to call the fire department which reported flames shooting from the residence upon their arrival.   The two escaped without injury.

Assistant Chief Ross Boshera says the heaviest damage was around the bedroom and back porch but most of the home was gutted.  The outside structure remains in place.

The State Fire Marshals office came to the scene Monday night to investigate but did not come to any immediate conclusions.

The fire call came in at 5:39 with firemen on the scene until 9:05 Monday night.

Boshara says they did have an issue with vehicles driving down the blocked-off street where the fire trucks were stationed and are requesting motorists stay away from fire scenes.

A home on James Street in Wamac heavily damaged by a fire still under investigation.
