Part of fence burns at Patoka home when controlled burn gets out of hand

Patoka Fire Chief Blake Hyde believes strong winds pushed a controlled burn into lawn furniture and then a fence on Sunday.

John Winkler of 206 North Locust said he went inside briefly and came back out to see lawn furniture and the fence on fire.   He was able to use a garden hose to knock down the fire before Patoka Firemen arrived on the scene.

Two sections of the fence were damaged in the fire.

The initial call had indicated the house was on fire, but that turned out not to be the case.   Sandoval Firemen, who had been called for mutual aid, were turned around after Patoka arrived on the scene.
