The Marion County Health Department is reporting one COVID-19 related death and 54 new cases from Christmas Eve through Monday. The man who passed away was in his 80s and was a resident of a long-term care facility. The death was the 98th in the county during the pandemic.
Statewide there were 105 additional deaths putting the state’s death toll from the pandemic over the 16,000 mark. The state health department is also reporting two deaths in Jefferson County, a male and female in their 80s. That brings the number of deaths in Jefferson County to 61. There were also 4,453 new or probable cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 942,362.
The 54 new cases sent the total number of positive cases in the county over the 3,000 mark to 3,037. 41 of the new cases are considered community spread and 13 are from household or close contacts. Four students were among the new cases, but none were at school during their infectious period.
There are now 417 active cases, including 25 in the hospital and five on ventilators. There were 141 who were released from isolation during the five day period, bringing the number of persons recovered to 2,522.
The Clinton County Health Department is reporting 85 new positive cases over the five day holiday period. There are now 445 on home isolation and 11 who are hospitalized.
The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting 77 new cases from December 25th thru Monday. There are now 187 positives in isolation.
The Washington County Health Department reported 28 new lab-confirmed cases on Sunday and Monday. There are now 117 active cases of which 20 are linked to outbreaks. Three are hospitalized.
Fayette County has had 63 new positive cases from last Wednesday through the weekend.
