Marjorie Lucille Schuchardt, 93, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, went home to be with Jesus to celebrate His birthday at 7:00 pm on December 25, 2020. She was born September 26, 1927, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late George Henry and Ruth Ellen (Bond) Shelton.  Marjorie first married Donald Leo Depoister in June of 1947, and he was killed in a car accident in September of 1960. She later married Glen Albert Schuchardt on April 6, 1963. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage before his death on October 7, 2008.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Randy Depoister of Plymouth, Minnesota, Cindy McBryar and husband, Frank, of Bryant, Alabama, and Daonna Depoister and husband, Andy Start, of Plymouth, Minnesota; grandchildren, Brandt Hertenstein Depoister and wife, Sarah, of Kansas City, Missouri, Brittany Hertenstein Depoister of Aurora, Illinois, Christy Whitehurst and husband, Andy, of Bryant, Alabama, Tracey Blythe (and Brian Valenzuela) of Deltona, Florida, and Zachary Start of Duluth, Minnesota and Andrew Start of Plymouth, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Evan Hertenstein Depoister, Hadassah Whitehurst, Jordan Blythe, and Sierra Blythe; nieces and nephews, Janice Shelton of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Rosie Maynor of Simpson, Illinois, Johnny Maynor of Eddyville, Illinois, and Larry Depoister of Edgewood, Illinois; dedicated best friend, Wilma Cook of Mount Vernon, Illinois; dear friend, Shirley Quick of Farina, Illinois; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, Marjorie was preceded in death by her twin brother, David Lee Shelton and his wife, Pat Shelton, of Mount Vernon and niece, Sheila Depoister Frailey of Beecher City, Illinois.

Marge was an active member of Happy Homemakers Home Extension, Girl Scouts of America, the Mount Vernon Humane Society, Wesley United Methodist Church, and West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church.  She was a devout Christian and a Sunday School teacher at both Wesley, and the West Salem Methodist churches, and was beloved by her many students.  Marge taught Sunday School at different times over the years, until she was 88 years old.  She then started a card ministry sending handwritten cards and notes to those who were hospitalized, terminally ill, shut-in, had lost a loved one, had a birthday, and anyone who just needed a lift.  She has impacted the lives of many through her volunteer work and by just being a good friend.

Marge was a master shopper, an accomplished seamstress, an excellent cook, a beautiful cake decorator, an amazing jewelry maker, and a creative crafter.

In 1958, Marge founded Buy-Rite Sales, a wholesale sundries company that provided merchandise to service stations, restaurants, and grocery stores in Southern Illinois.  She was a sole proprietor in an era when it was rare for a woman to be at the helm of a business.   In the 1970s, she assumed proprietorship of Shelton Insurance Agency when her father became ill and continued to successfully grow that business for over 25 years.  She retired in 1998.

Marge was known around town for dressing to the nines, decked out with matching high heels, purses, and jewelry — a classy lady who was told by many she had the best legs in town.

Marge loved to travel with family and friends and was blessed to be able to visit many parts of the U.S., as well as many other countries.   She and Glen always walked happily hand-in-hand with a twinkle of love in their eyes, an admirable example for their children.

In her later years, Marge longed to enter through Heaven’s Pearly Gates and walk the Streets of Gold.  She dreamed of going home to be with her Master and live in her mansion in the sky that He has prepared just for her.

Marge’s children would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Wilma Cook, who was not only her loyal best friend but also her devoted and dedicated caregiver.  Through her loving care, Wilma made it possible for their Mom’s fervent desire not to live in a nursing home, to become a reality.  For this gift, they will always be eternally grateful.

An open Zoom Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The Private Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm but will be broadcast via Zoom.  Interment will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois and the family would like to invite anyone interested in attending the graveside committal to please come. Memorials may be made in Marjorie’s honor to the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church.    The family would like to invite those wishing to attend the visitation and/or funeral service to join via Zoom.
