Three people are being held in the Marion County Jail for burglary and criminal damage to property after a burglary was broken up in progress at a home in the 8000 block of State Route 161 in rural Iuka Saturday afternoon.
Those arrested are 39-year-old Christopher Brown of 4th Street in Xenia, 39-year-old Melissa Schnepper of West 6th in Flora, and 31-year-old Cory Jones of East Third in Flora. In addition to the burglary and criminal damage charges, Schnepper was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine and bringing contraband into a penal institution.
Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say the incident began when a family member arrived at the home and discovered a car parked behind a shed. When he later announced his presence, the three fled in their vehicle eastbound on the Route 161 Extension. Both the Clay and Wayne County Sheriff’s Departments were notified. A Clay County deputy later stopped the vehicle on Old US 50 at Dogwood Lane and took the three into custody without incident.
Deputies report the home had been ransacked and some items were stolen. Some of the stolen items were reportedly found in the vehicle.
Schnepper had the drug charges added after meth was allegedly found on her person when she was being booked into the jail.
The three were allegedly found in the residence around three Saturday afternoon.
