The Central City Village Board was told this week that the pole and siren for the new tornado warning siren have now been put into place. Acting Village President Ken Buchanan says after electrical work is complete and the old pole and siren removed in January, the new siren will be placed into operation. Central City received an $18,000 grant to cover three-fourths of the cost of the new siren from the USDA. The grant request was prepared by village employees Jim Maloy and former City Clerk Cammie Starr.
The board was informed the village has received a $73,500 grant from the Illinois Housing Authority’s Strong Community program. The village has selected six locations where dilapidated homes will be removed. The grant was prepared by Leann Speiser.
Current City Clerk Karlie Patten is currently working on a Local Cure Allotment Grant for the Central City Police Department. They anticipate receiving $48,349.
The board hired a new attorney. Tracey Willenborg of the Taylor Law Offices in Effingham will replace Tim Hudspeth who resigned as a result of his election as Marion County State’s Attorney.
The board increased ordinance violation fines. They will go from $125 to $200 for non-parking violations which will increase from $10 and $15 to $100.
The board failed to get a motion for a liquor license request, with more discussion anticipated in the future.
Central City now has a website. Trustee D.G. Cushman put together the website that will have additional information added over time. It can be accessed at Centralcityil-dot-com.
