Sally Sue Lyons
– – Our Matriarch has passed on before her 60th year arrived and honestly we can only imagine she is infuriated about this milestone not being met.

Sally S. Lyons (January 2, 1962-December 2, 2021) breathed her last unassisted breath in the late evening of November 20, 2021 at Doctors Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Salem, Illinois. The medical team at Deaconess in Evansville, Indiana did all they possibly could to extend the love she had left to give for her kids. The Deaconess team did an amazing job caring for our Mom in her time of need and we are eternally thankful for their thoughtfulness. However, on Thursday, December 2nd Sally was called home.

Sally leaves behind a daughter, Carlie Alcantar and husband Sal of Centralia, Illinois, along with their fur baby (and her first “grandson”) Walter. Additionally, a daughter, Sierra Lyons and partner Richard Harding who live in Centralia, Illinois with their children Tom and Joselyn. Sally also leaves behind three bonus daughters; Chasadi Brown, Cadence Brown, Peyton Brown, and three bonus sons; Preston Brown, Xavier Brown, and Chad (CJ) Brown. Sally raised and loved each of these children for many years as her own. The children, or her “kids” as Sally would say, may not have been born of Sally’s earthly body, but they were forged of her heart and will reside there forevermore.

Sally is also survived by three brothers; William “Billy” Lyons of Odin, Illinois, Chief Joseph Lyons and fiancée Angella Reilmann of Sandoval, Illinois, and Matthew Lyons of Belleville, Illinois. Sally has an enormous family and extended family that survives her as well as many dear friends and loved ones. Sally was especially close to her nephews Christian and Bradley Lyons.

Our Matriarch died a genuinely loved and selfless woman. Not only in her hometown of Sandoval, Illinois but also the surrounding counties. Sally was known in the Food Service Industry for many years working along side her mother (and best friend) Doris and sister Tena at such establishments as The Family Table, The Sandoval House, The Pantry, The Bakers Dozen, and finally owning The Lyons Den Cafe. Sally and Tena had the best time running around through the 80’s and 90’s bartending at Fats, Bubs, Crossroads, The Caddyshack, and Mr A’s. Sally was known for her everlasting smile and no nonsense attitude. Her years in Food Service led her not only to have the best times with her best friends but also the ability to form life long bonds with her closest circle and best buddies.

We in the family knew Sally always as a woman in the service of her fellow women and men. She was a woman of unshakable conviction and extreme hope and strength.
Our Mom was raised a woman of the earth and faith. To her; living meant willful, cheerful engagement and doing. She loved all things nature and truly believed in the power of prayer. The woods were her “chapel” and the campgrounds were her second home. Before she became ill with COPD you could find her lost for hours in the woods where she was raised. Of course, she would swear she knew the path and she would eventually find a way out. Mostly mushroom hunting, out door adventures, fishing, and simply family time spent lost together were the gems of her life. She lived fully and loved wholeheartedly.

Sally loved her brothers and sister
with her everything. Sally absolutely adored her first granddaughter Joselyn Michelle with all of her heart and spent any free time ensuring she was as rotten as possible.

And because we, the family of Sally, truly knew and loved our great Matriarch with significant adoration we also honestly liked her – and we shall miss her dearly and honor her in our memory every day. We will never forget her.

Patience now Sally, and know we, your family will return your earthly body to Our family cemetery near where you began your earthly journey on Bethel Road. Your parents William “Bill” Lyons, Doris Watts-Lyons, your sister Tena Lyons, and grand puppy Tyson are eager for your reunion.

For those who would like to see it, our Matriarch’s marker will be found at Deadmond Cemetery, on Bethel Road in Southern Illinois, in an area known to the locals as Lyons Hill.

Rest in peace Mom. We will miss you always but give thanks that for your short time here, you were ours.

Flowers may be sent to Day Macz Funeral Home Sandoval, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, you might also consider donations towards “her Brown kids” which may also be sent to Day Macz Funeral Home Sandoval, Illinois in care of Carlie Alcantar and Sierra Lyons.
