The Illinois Secretary of  State says most drivers license facilities will remain closed until January 4th due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the exceptions is the Salem Drivers License Facility that will remain open for new drivers ONLY.  The Salem facility will also be available by appointment only for Commercial Driving License tests.   The number to call for an appointment is 217-785-3013.

Other services will be unavailable in person at Salem and other facilities, but spokesperson Henry Haupt says transactions for many other services can be completed online at cyberdriveillinois.com.

“Some of the transactions they could do include are renewing a license plate sticker, renewing a driver’s license for a qualified driver, renewing a valid ID card, and obtaining a driver record abstract.”

Haupt says driver’s licenses and ID card expirations are extended until June 1st of next year.
