Governor says state not out of woods even though COVID-19 numbers have improved

State officials warn that a few days of improved COVID-19 numbers doesn’t mean Illinois is out of the woods yet.

The number of new cases and test positivity rate has been on the decline over the past few days.

Governor JB Pritzker says while that is good news, this isn’t over.

“The numbers have come down, but they are still double-digit numbers, these positivity numbers.  We’re still on average more than 10,000 cases per day.  We have to bring those numbers down.  We have a lot of work to do.  This is going to take weeks, not days.”

Pritzker urges families to skip the big thanksgiving celebrations this year to help prevent a surge in cases after the holiday.

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 8,322 new cases of coronavirus disease on Monday along with 47 additional deaths.

The State Positivity Rate for the past seven days is now at 10.9-percent.   The Southern Illinois Positivity Rate is at 12.6-percent.  The Marion County rate is at 16.9 percent.   The Metro East Region has a seven-day positivity rate of 14.3-percent.  The East Central Illinois Region is at 13.7-percent.
