Additional candidates filed for open city council seats in both Salem and Centralia on Wednesday.
In Salem, appointed city councilman Jacob Hockett has filed to retain the seat. He was selected to replace Sue Morgan when she was appointed Mayor. A former City Councilman Royce Bringwald has also filed to return to the council. That brings the total number of candidates for the city council to four. Councilman Jim Koehler and challenger Neal Canon filed petitions on Monday.
No additional candidates have filed for Mayor. Councilman Nic Farley and Brock Waggoner have filed nominating petitions so far.
In Centralia, Isreal Fontancz has filed for one of the two open city council seats.
Jeffrey Castellari, Jason Hunter, and Robert “Rob” Jackson filed on Monday. The two incumbent councilmen, Andre Marshall and Howard Jones, have announced they will not seek re-election.
Two candidates have filed for Mayor. Appointed Mayor Herb Williams and Bryan Kuder who was elected two years ago but not seated after the council found he was not a resident of the city. Kuder is still fighting that decision in Marion County Court.
The filing period for candidates continues through Monday afternoon at five at both Salem and Centralia City Halls. You are asked to call before you come to file in Salem due to the city hall lobby is currently closed. The same procedure will be used in Centralia when the city hall lobby closes to the public on Friday.
