Jim Mays, 83, of Dix, Illinois, passed away at 11:15 pm November 18, 2020 at his residence. Jim was a part of the last graduating class of Boyd Grade School in 1951. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard and worked as a laborer for Lipps Construction, Illinois Power Company, and Brieseacher Construction Company. Jim was a faithful member of Boyd Christian Church. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed restoring old tractors, but his greatest joy was the time he shared with his family. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with them the most. Jim was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by those who knew and adored him.
A Visitation will be held Monday, November 23, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Boyd Cemetery in Boyd, Illinois. A Graveside Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Jim’s honor to the Boyd Christian Church Building Fund. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people under the tent at a time. James married Donna (Williams) Mays on April 1, 1961 in Reno, Nevada. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Jim is survived by his children, Rod Mays and wife, Michelle and Jodi Wollerman and husband, Paul, all of Dix; grandchildren, Holly Mays Kapp and husband, Nick, Cody Mays, Logan Wollerman, and Blake Wollerman, all of Dix; brother, Ben Mays and wife, Marcella of Dix; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was born June 19, 1937 in Boyd, Illinois to the late Cleo Wesley and Violet Mae (Moore) Mays.
