The Marion County Health Department is saddened to report five COVID-19 related deaths.

Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says one of the deaths was a female in her 80s who passed away at the Odin Care Center.   She was the 15th resident of the care center who had COVID-19 to die.  Three of the others who passed away died at the hospital.  They were a male in his 70s that had been on a ventilator for quite a while and females in their 80s and 90s.  The fifth death was a female in her 60s who died at home.  Marion County has now had 40 COVID-19 related deaths.

The health department also reported 39 new positive cases of COVID-19.  None were long term care residents.  Two are students but were not at school during their infectious periods.  Mallow reports 24 of the cases are considered community spread and 15 are believed to have contacted the disease from household or close contacts.   The Tuesday cases range from five teens to a male and female in their 80s.

There are now 326 active cases in Marion County including 17 in the hospital of which one is on a ventilator.   Three were released from isolation on Tuesday, bringing the total recovered to 1,193.    The number of positive cases in the county has now surpassed 1,500 and stands at 1,519.

The Illinois Department of  Public Health is also reporting one new death in Wayne County.  It is a female in her 80ths.  It is the 27th positive lab-confirmed death in the county.   The department is also reporting six new positive cases.  There are 116 people on isolation and two who are currently hospitalized.

Clinton County had 104 new positive cases on Tuesday bringing their total on home isolation to 596 with seven hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department has 38 new positives with 208 active cases currently in isolation.

The Fayette County Health Department is reporting 13 confirmed and one probable new COVID-19 case.

There were 12,601 new cases of Coronavirus disease statewide on Tuesday.  97 additional deaths were reported.

The Statewide Positivity Rate remains at 12.5-percent for the past seven days.

The Southern Illinois Regional Positivity rate remains at 13.9-percent.  The Marion County rate is at 16.5-percent.  The Metro East Region has a seven-day positivity rate of 16.1-percent.  The East Central Region positivity rate is at 14-percent.
