United Medical Response LLC has announced the expansion of services to Mt. Vernon and the construction of a new facility.
Chief Operating Officer Justin Lewis says the new building will be located on the northwest side of the intersection of Plum Avenue and Veterans Memorial Drive. The building is being designed specifically by United Medical Response and will include space for ten bedrooms, several offices, living spaces, a training area, and eight ambulance bays under 7,700 square feet of floor space. The facility is expected to be completed in the spring. Lewis says no dollar cost has yet been placed on the project.
The company sees Mt. Vernon as a strategic location to allow United Medical Response to provide rapid EMS response across the region. The company is based in Salem, has an ambulance based in Centralia, and has additional locations in Herrin and Marion.
The company has also announced three more ambulances will arrive in December.
That will bring the total number of units to 21. They include 15 Advanced Life Support ambulances, two Basic Life Support ambulances, and four Advanced Life Support non-transport units. The company says the ambulances are equipped with the latest medical equipment available.
