Salem City Council to consider new three year agreement for trash pickup

By News Nov 16, 2020 | 11:43 AM

The Salem City Council Monday night will consider a new three-year contract for garbage collection.

Salem City Manager Rex Barbee is recommending the city stay with its current contractor DBS Disposal which had the lowest bid of three responses. However, it is 75-cents more per household than its current contract. Barbee says DBS has provided good service and has been responsive to the city’s needs.

The council will be asked to approve a contract with Haier Plumbing of Okawville for $15,470 to provide camera services to scope for clogs and damage in the sanitary sewer system when needed. The money is in the budget for the work. The Waste Water Treatment Plant is requesting the purchase of a utility vehicle for their use. The vehicle from Little Egypt Golf Cars would be $6,992.

A proposal has been made by CDS Technologies to equip the three squad cars currently without in-car camera systems with the devices. The cost would be $19,841. The work is not included in this year’s budget.

The board will be asked to approve the appointment of Gary Hahn to the Bryan Bennett Library Board.

The meeting will be held via the Zoom platform at six Monday night.
