A 47-year-old Sparta man was killed in a Fayette County crash Monday morning.
State Police say preliminary information indicates Chad Kinstler was killed when the driver of the pickup in which he was a passenger fell asleep on Route 185 north of the 500 East intersection northwest of Vandalia. The pickup was driven by 26-year-old Evan Dotson of Sparta initially ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and crossed the centerline striking the trailer pulled by a commercial truck driven by 43-year-old Jesse Rosenberger of Vandalia. The pickup then ran off the road again, entered a ditch, and struck a tree.
Kinstler was pronounced dead on the scene. Dotson was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Rosenberger was not hurt.
State Police say the road was closed for about five hours during the crash investigation.
Dotson was ticketed for improper lane usage, driving while fatigued, no valid driver’s license, failure to wear a seatbelt by a driver and operating an uninsured vehicle.
The crash occurred at 10:45 Monday morning.
