 The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting another record day for new cases of COVID-19.   There were 12,438 cases recorded leading up to the Saturday report, shattering the old record by more than two-thousand cases that had just been set on Friday.

New deaths were reported in both Jefferson and Clay Counties.   There were three deaths in Jefferson County including two males in their 70s and a male in his 80s.   The Illinois Department of Public Health is also reporting a male in his 70s has died in Clay County.   Statewide, 76 additional deaths were reported on Saturday.  Other deaths in Southern Illinois include one in Clark County, three in Madison County, and two in Randolph County.

The statewide positivity rate for the past seven days has now surpassed ten-percent and is at 10.3-percent.   The positivity rate in the Southern Illinois Region remained at 10.6-percent for the second day.   Marion County’s rate dipped a full percentage point and is now at 9.7-percent.  The Metro East positivity rate has jumped to 11.3-percent.   The East Central Region remains at 10.2-percent for the second day in a row.
