Robert “Buddy” Carlton, 75, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:51 am November 3, 2020 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Carlton proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 – 1968 including time on the Charles R. Ware Ship. He was a former member of the Mount Vernon AMVETS, member of the Long Rifles Club, Gold Wings Touring Association, and New Hope Webb Baptist Church. Buddy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be dearly missed.A Visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Aaron Trotter officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Buddy’s honor to the charity of the donors choice.Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 25 people in our building at a time. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Carlton, daughter, Angela Howard, sister, Roberta Smith, and great-granddaughter.
He was born January 6, 1945 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Robert J. and Melba Azalea (Huffstler) Carlton. Buddy first married Sharon Keef and then later married Karen (Quinn) Carlton on October 15, 1977 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. In addition to his loving wife of forty-three years, Buddy is survived by his son, Brian Carlton of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Deirdre Jarrell and husband, Fred of Mount Vernon, Illinois; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Boldrey of Opdyke, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
