Two Marion County Schools have now gone on full remote learning due to COVID-19 cases. They are Patoka High School and Central City Grade School.
Patoka School District Superintendent David Radamacher says the high school will be on remote learning until Friday, November 6th. The school went to remote learning on Friday. Radamacher says they won’t have to go the full 14 days because the actual exposure dates of the two high school students and one staff member who tested positive occurred earlier. The positive cases have resulted in 21 students being quarantined. No other staff members had to quarantine.
Radamacher says Patoka Grade and Junior High are not impacted. He notes it is easier to control the situation in the lower grades because they do not switch classrooms like the high school. This is the second time the high school has gone on remote learning this school year. Lunch and breakfast will be made available for pickup this week for high school students at the south door if you make a request by calling the school.
Central City Grade School is back on full remote learning for the second time this school year starting Monday. It will continue until Monday, November 16th.
Superintendent Tim Brannon says they have had a student and staff member test positive resulting in seven more students and two other staff members to be placed on quarantine. He notes in addition to concerns over COVID-19, there was an issue in finding enough substitute teachers. Central City has been going to school for a full day five days a week.
The Marion County Health Department has reported several students testing positive for COVID-19 over the past few days which could result in issues for additional school districts.
