Kaskaskia College cross country teams rolled into the postseason after a solid last regular season meet. Battling against Nationally ranked Heartland College on both sides of the ledger, the Blue Angels and Blue Devils had their hands full.
The Blue Angels, who hold down the 8th spot nationally in NJCAA DII, had their number 1 and number 2 race to the front, passing the 1 mile mark at 6 minutes and 20 seconds, The duo of Cheyenne Finley and Summer Chelf continued to battle the hills and the less than perfect condition of course, due to the week of rain.With less than 265 feet to the finish line, Finley had maintain her lead and cross the line as the NJCAA Region 24 women champion. The first Blue Angel to earn that honor. Chelf with a solid finish placed 3rd overall to earn All Region 24 honors. Elyse Faust turned in a solid 7th place finish for the Angels. Gracee Kelly was next across for KC, followed by Mya Albers. Macie Hargis was 6th and Abby Bloemer 7th for the team. As a team the Blue Angels placed 2nd behind the Hawks of Heartland.
The Blue Devils had their hands full with a tough nationally ranked Heartland Hawks, Noah Probst had a great race over the hills and wet conditions to earn 5th place and All Region 24 honors on the men’s side. Alex Detmer was the next across for the Blue Devils, followed by Ty Reynolds and then Matt Speidel. The number 5 counter was Alex Huegen, with Braden Tate and Andrew Stevenson right behind him. The men placed 2nd behind Heartland.
