A step-mother and her step-son were both being held in the Marion County Jail on Sunday after the step-son was allegedly hit over the head with a shovel during an altercation.

66-year-old Ruby Sides of Berry Road in Patoka was arrested by sheriff’s deputies for domestic battery following the incident.   Her step-son, 40-year-old William Sides, was also taken into custody on a Marion County failure to appear in court warrant on a pending felony possession of a firearm without a FOID card.  The bond on the warrant is set at $15,000.

Sheriff’s Department reports indicate William Sides did not require any hospital treatment for his injuries.

The incident occurred around 5:00 Saturday evening.
