The Social Service Agency BCMW and WJBD Radio will once again sponsor the Adopt a Family Christmas Program. However, there will be some changes due to COVID-19.
Applications will be taken next Monday through Friday at the BCMW offices at 909 East Rexford and at the Salem Bryan Bennett Library. The library has graciously agreed to be the pickup and drop off point for applications this year due to the small size of the WJBD-WSIQ radio lobby that doesn’t allow for social distancing.
Applications will be available at the BCMW offices from 8:30 to 11:30 am and 1 to 3 pm Monday through Friday. Place call the office from your car to let them know that you are there to pick up an application. The phone number to call is 618-532-7388, extension 127, 162, 115, or 163.
The Bryan Bennett Library will accept applications and copy any needed paperwork from 11 to 4 Monday through Thursday and nine to two on Friday.
All applications must be submitted by Friday afternoon to be considered for the program.
BCMW Community Services will be coordinating with other Christmas projects in the county to avoid duplications and reach those most in need. The program targets those making strides towards self-sufficiency. Families must provide 30-days proof of total household income and a copy of their current medical card.
The Adopt-a-Family Program provided warm clothing and toys to 225 families which included 612 children during the 2019 Christmas Season. Cash donations were received from many entities across Marion County. Toy drives were conducted by local businesses and schools. There were also close to 50 different individuals, groups, churches, schools, businesses, or organizations that adopted families and shopped and wrapped gifts for them.
Anyone wishing to adopt a child to purchase for or to make a toy or cash donation may contact Tammy Chmielewski or Jennifer Harnish at (618) 532-7388, extension 127 or 162.
