Centralia City Council plans work session on next year’s budget

By News Oct 26, 2020 | 11:22 AM

The Centralia City Council will have a work session on next year’s budget prior to its regular meeting Monday night.

The budget work session will begin at five and include the operating budget and capital plan. The regular meeting will follow at six and include an ordinance to sell property at 404 North Poplar that was the site of a demolish motel to United Medical Response of Salem. They were the highest of three bidders for the property at $21,112. The council will also open bids on the sale of four other properties owned by the city at 815 Arbor, 1834 Duck Lane, 416 North Maple, and 426 South Pine.

A proclamation will be presented to name October 26th as Ann Chappell Day in Centralia to honor her significant contributions to the community and the impact she made on the community. Chappell was involved in multiple organizations and led the team along with her husband to save the “Little Chapel” in the Elmwood Cemetery.

City Manager Lowell Crow will bring back a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Illinois FOP Labor Council for the Patrol Officers for approval after it failed earlier over concerns about 12-hour work shifts.

Crow is also recommending an Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund Service be allowed for military service.

Both the work session and regular meeting will be conducted by Zoom Conference Call.
