As the state set a new daily record high for new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Governor JB Pritzker says the stricter COVID-19 mitigations placed on some regions of the state including southern Illinois will be enforced.

Some of the new restrictions now affecting four Illinois regions including no indoor dining or bar services, and gatherings are limited to 25 people or less.  The Governor says it’s important for businesses and the public to follow these rules.

“The State Police is now alerted to be on patrol in those regions.  They have the ability as you know to not only issuing citations but they will start by asking people to disperse and warnings and so on.”

Governor Pritzker says bars and restaurants still failing to comply could lose their liquor license, which could be hard to get back if regulations aren’t being followed.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,942 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday as well as 44 deaths. The state’s positivity rate for the past week is at 5.7-percent. The Southern Illinois positivity rate is up two-tenths of a percent to 9.1-percent. Marion County’s rate is up two-tenths of a percent to 6.2-percent. The Metro East Region is up two-tenths of a percent to 7.8-percent. The East Central Illinois Region remains at 7.5-percent.
