At the request of Mayor Pam Gelsinger, the Sandoval Village Board began discussion Tuesday night on hiring a part-time city manager or village administrator.

Gelsinger could not be at the meeting but wanted input to determine if there was enough interest to proceed.   Board member Heather Day, who brought up the issue, said there was money in the budget.

Some board members had reservations but could see the benefit of having someone in charge of the various department heads especially if the village has a new hire.

Village Attorney Ryan Connor says the right person could be a big help.

“If you get somebody into that role that either doesn’t know what they are doing or isn’t good at that role, it could be a huge waste of money.  You need someone in that role that will really will do all the things that are happening now anyway only straight-lining it. It has the potential to save you money and be a great long term investment.”

Connor says it could also take the pressure off of board members who are volunteering a large number of hours to keep the village on track.

The board agreed to discuss the potential duties of the new city manager or village administrator at the next personnel committee meeting.

The Sandoval Board agreed to keep the Community Center closed for activities due to the continuing large numbers of COVID-19 cases.

The board asked Police Chief Joe Lyons to make contact with the owner of the old IGA building and see if repairs can be made or the building torn down.  The bard was told the ceiling was falling down.

Lyons announced his new squad car obtained through a federal USDA program should be arriving at the end of October.
