Salem Community High School has earned a perfect 4.0 financial profile score. Lemone and Hardcastle auditor Sara Hanks made the announcement when presenting the annual audit to the school board Monday night.
Hanks reported the district ended the year with $5.9-million in the bank, enough to operate for 340 days without any additional revenue. That’s $632,000 better than the prior year.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering is pleased with the district’s financial performance.
“We are extremely proud of the 4.0 financial recognition score. It’s always the goal of our district to get there. We slipped off of that last year but that was in part because the parking lot project we had where we had revenues in one year and the expenses in a different year kind of threw things off. We are extremely proud to get back to that 4.0. We feel that is an indication to our community that we are doing the best we can with the resources they send to us to educate the kids of this community.”
The audit set the tuition rate for an out of district student at $9,984 indicating the amount of money spent to education each student.
Detering says the district spent 3-percent less than budgeted during the first quarter of the current fiscal year as they try and whittle down a forecasted budget deficit for the current school year.
In other action, Principal John Boles announced his retirement plans after the 2024-25 school year.
The board employed Dale Neal as a bus driver.
